Pre-Exam ‘Hints n Tips’ with the UniSA Counselling Team
The UniSA Counselling service is free and confidential to all onshore UniSA students, with 1:1 appointments available (Face to Face, Phone or Zoom).
Maintain a balanced/nutritious diet and avoid caffeine as well as alcohol (and other drugs)
Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep/night
Make time for moving your body/physical exercise (e.g. do some stretching, yoga, go for a walk, etc.)
Study for the exam: If you have prepared thoroughly for the exam, you’ll likely feel more confident on the day
Visualise completing the exam successfully. Encourage yourself through positive self-talk, e.g. 'I can do this', 'It will be okay', etc.
Before you go to bed the night before the exam, organize anything you will need for the exam (eg pen, pencil, calculator etc). Double-check the time of the exam and the location
Do something relaxing/unrelated to study for the last hour before the exam; last minute cramming can cloud ability to remember overall concepts
Get to the exam on time - not too late but not too early
Try to limit conversations with other students before entering the exam; this can increase anxiety if comparing revision/planning/preparation
Practice mindfulness techniques - check them out here
