Frequently Asked Questions

What is the time commitment?

The time required will depend on the specific committee or working group and the estimated time commitment will normally be stated in the advertisement and during the induction process (if applicable)

It is worth keeping in mind that while some groups may only meet for an hour once a month, some reading time is required for the agenda of each committee and you may wish to do your own additional research into any items raised.

Your time management is your responsibility and it is important that you show up for anything you have committed to.

Will I receive training?

If training is required for the position, this will be included in the advertisement and factored into the estimated time commitment. Training may be conducted by the part of the University organising the committee, or may be run by USASA.

If you are currently in a role and are concerned you have not received training or have specific areas for improvement that you are interested in, please check out the Student Voice Resources or get in touch with us directly at USASA.StudentVoice@unisa.edu.au and let us know what we can do to support you.

Will I get paid for being involved?

At the time of writing, most of the positions advertised are not paid. However, if a position does have payment associated with it (financial or otherwise), it will be clearly stated.

I am a student undertaking the UniSA+ program. Can I count my participation to this award?

Generally yes, so long as it meets the specific requirements of the UniSA+ program. If you are unsure, please contact that team directly at unisaplus@unisa.edu.au

Is there a limit on how many representative groups I can be a part of?

The short answer is no, however it is important to consider other commitments occurring in your life as well as your study. It is also crucial that your involvement in any existing groups is not compromised by joining more (including potential conflicts of interest).

I’m a staff member.  What resources are available to me?

While your own Academic Unit or area will have some resources, the USASA Student Voice team have also put together a set of resources for UniSA Staff.

The University of South Australia Student Association Inc. (USASA) acknowledges the Kaurna, Boandik and Barngarla First Nations People as the traditional custodians of the unceded lands now home to the University of South Australia’s campuses in Adelaide, Mount Gambier and Whyalla. We respectfully acknowledge their Ancestors and Elders, past, present and emerging. We also acknowledge the Traditional Custodians and their Ancestors of the lands and waters across Australia. It was and always will be Aboriginal land.
