1. What club are you in?
South Australia Students Comedy Club
2. What are you studying? Did it influence the club you chose to join?
Electrical & Electronic Engineering studies can be demanding. Comedy clubs offer a fantastic outlet for stress relief and a chance to unwind and have fun.
3. Why did you join this club?
After spending hours debugging complex circuits and wrestling with differential equations in my Electrical and Electronic Engineering labs, my brain feels fried. I needed a complete mental break, something totally different. The Comedy Club seemed like the perfect antidote. The thought of going to a meeting and laughing with other students was incredibly appealing. It's a way to de-stress and recharge so I can tackle those tough engineering problems with a clearer mind.
4. What's your role on the club executive? Explain.
As the President of the South Australia Students Comedy Club, my role on the executive is to provide overall leadership and direction for the club's activities and goals. I chair our meetings, ensuring productive discussions and collaborative decision-making among members and the executive team. A significant part of my responsibility involves managing and supporting the other executive members by delegating tasks and ensuring everyone works effectively towards our objectives, whether organising open mic nights, running comedy workshops, or planning larger performances. Ultimately, I serve as the primary point of contact and representative for the club, both within the university and externally, ensuring we operate smoothly, adhere to our constitution and university guidelines, and foster a fun and engaging environment for all students who love comedy.
5. What's the best thing about being a part of a club?
The best thing about being part of a club is the sense of community and belonging it fosters. The clubs bring together individuals who share a common interest, passion, or goal, creating an instant connection and a supportive network. This shared identity allows me to form meaningful friendships, feel understood, and have a space where I truly belong. Beyond the social aspect, being part of a club often provides opportunities for personal growth, skill development, and the chance to contribute to something larger than oneself, enriching and fulfilling the experience.
6. How can other students get involved in your club?
Getting involved in the South Australia Students Comedy Club is easy and we'd love to have you! The best way to officially join our community and stay in the loop with all our activities is to sign up for free membership on the USASA website. This ensures you're a registered member and receive all our updates. Additionally, you can taste what we do and stay even more connected by following us on Instagram! We post about upcoming events, meeting times, behind-the-scenes glimpses, and other fun club news there. Whether you're a budding comedian, a comedy writer, interested in helping out, or love to laugh, we welcome all UniSA students to join our club!
7. Have you gained new friends or made new connections through being in a club?
Absolutely! Joining the South Australia Students Comedy Club has been fantastic for meeting new people. I've made a lot of really good friends who share my sense of humour and passion for comedy. We often hang out outside of club meetings too, whether it's grabbing coffee after a workshop or even just watching comedy specials together. It's created a real sense of community for me on campus.
8. What achievement are you most proud of??
I'm most proud of the club's growth in terms of membership and activity. We've successfully organised a lot more events this year – we're talking almost double the number from the previous year – and our student outreach has been fantastic. We've seen a real surge in new members joining and actively participating in everything we offer. It's been great to see the club become such a vibrant and active part of the university community.
9. What colour best represents your personality and why?
Green, my favourite colour, reflects my desire for balance and a down-to-earth approach, qualities I aim to bring to my leadership of the comedy club. I value creating a calm and supportive environment where members feel included. The colour's association with caring and growth aligns with my commitment to the club's success and the wellbeing of its members.
10. What would you like to get out of being in a club?
What I'd be most interested in gaining from being part of a club is a deeper understanding of human dynamics and collaboration. Observing how individuals interact, work together on projects (like putting on a comedy show), resolve disagreements, and build a sense of community would be incredibly insightful. Learning about the nuances of teamwork, leadership styles within a group setting, and how people contribute their unique skills would be a valuable learning experience.
11. If you could start any club what would it be?
If I could start any club, it would definitely be a food club focused on exploring the diverse culinary landscape of Adelaide and beyond. We'd organise regular outings to local restaurants and cafes, each focusing on a different cuisine or style of food. It would be a fantastic way to discover hidden gems, try new things, and learn about different food cultures together. We could also have themed potlucks where members bring dishes representing a specific country or ingredient.
