1. What club are you in?
UniSA Marketing Club
2. What are you studying? Did it influence the club you chose to join?
I have completed my Bachelor of Business (Marketing) at UniSA and am undertaking my Masters by Research (Marketing) with the support of the Ehrenberg-Bass Institute. I originally started my uni journey doing a Bachelor of Business but fell in love with marketing through the first-year elective subjects I took, leading me to change my degree. And yes, my studies did influence my club choice.
3. Why did you join this club?
Like most business students, I do a lot of things to improve my employability and network with professionals and I saw joining UMC as an opportunity to do both. Extra-curricular activities demonstrate to potential employers that you go above and beyond, whilst also leading to useful skill development and networking opportunities. I also wanted to make more friends at uni and saw the club as a way to do that, either through meeting people in the club or by helping to put on events where I could meet new people. My undergrad years were severely impacted by COVID and I felt that I didn't get to have the universal uni experience like making friends, going to pub crawls and making useful connections for later in my career. I thought that by joining the exec committee of UMC, I would be able to provide those opportunities that I wish I had had for other students as well as myself.
4. What's your role on the club executive? Explain.
I am the Vice President of UMC which means I do a bit of everything! We have a President and Mentor President, and between the three of us, along with an army of other executives, we try our best to connect students to the industry whilst offering opportunities to have fun and make memories whilst they're studying. VP means I organise meetings, help out with social media, help plan events, design things, promote the club...the list goes on! As I said, a bit of everything!
5. What's the best thing about being a part of a club?
The people you meet! I have already met so many wonderful people through the club and I just know I am going to meet even more. I also thoroughly enjoy being able to offer students the events and opportunities that I wish I could've had in my undergrad days.
6. How can other students get involved in your club?
By becoming a member and following our social media to stay up to date with all of our upcoming plans and events...there are a lot of exciting things coming this year so stay tuned!
7. Have you gained new friends or made new connections through being in a club?
Yes, of course! There are so many lovely people involved with USASA clubs, both personally and professionally.
8. What achievement are you most proud of?
Organising and executing my very own pub crawl (with the support of my club). I recently organised the 'Michael Shot Pub Crawl' (a play on The Office's Michael Scott) because I didn't get to go to any pub crawls during my undergrad. Despite never really being on a pub crawl, I was able to organise the majority of the event with support from UMC execs. It was a successful night with 60 attendees and lots of people had fun!
9. What colour best represents your personality and why?
Green - I am incredibly passionate about the environment so green is very fitting. I also find it a calming but strong colour (can colours be calming and strong?). I also have green eyes...
10. What would you like to get out of being in a club?
I would like to continue to provide opportunities for undergrad students that I wish I could've had so that I can partake in them and pretend I'm still an undergrad! I'd love to make even more friends during my studies whilst creating professional networks that I can use later on in my career.
11. If you could start any club what would it be?
Probably a travel club? I am a huge fan of solo backpacking travels and would love to connect with other like-minded people to share tips, tricks and travel plans!
