[Media Release] Yesterday (19 June 2018), the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide announced that both universities have agreed to explore the merits of a merger to create a new Australian university.
Over the next 6 months, both universities will undertake extensive consultation with staff, students and alumni, as well as business, industry, government, and members of the community.
The University of South Australia Student Association (USASA) is the Student Association at UniSA, representing approximately 37,000 students. “The University of South Australia Student Association welcomes the decision of both The University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia to explore the possibility of a merger between the two universities” said USASA President Jordan Mumford. “I have spoken to the Vice-Chancellor about this announcement, and my immediate focus will be ensuring that the student voice is at the heart of this process”.
Over the coming months, your USASA Student Representatives will be conducting campus visits in response to yesterday’s announcement to compile student feedback independently of the University. “I look forward to speaking to students across all six University of South Australia campuses, and making sure your views on this issue are heard” said USASA President Jordan Mumford. These dates will be made available through USASA’s promotional channels.
All current academic programs, student services, and research relationships will continue to operate as normal during this period. There will be no impact on students throughout this process.
