The University of South Australia Student Association (USASA) is pleased to announce that it is the first student organisation in South Australia to affiliate to the Union of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students (UATSIS). Established in 2017, UATSIS is the peak representative body for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander undergraduate students in Australia, which is run by Indigenous Australians for Indigenous Australians. UATSIS works for the empowered and collective voice of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander undergraduate students.
“UATSIS is very pleased to welcome USASA as our first South Australian affiliate, we highly commend the student association on being the first in the state to take this leap” said Ethan Taylor, UATSIS President.
“USASA is proud to be leading the way in supporting a national voice for indigenous students, as well as supporting the University of South Australia in it’s commitment to being the University of Choice for Aboriginal Peoples ” said Jordan Mumford, USASA President.
USASA will also present at many of the National Reconciliation Week events from 27th May - 3rd of June which will be taking place across all UniSA Campuses. The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2018 is Don’t Keep History a Mystery. These events will provide the opportunity for all Australians to reflect on the relationship between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and other Australians.
