Personally, I am passionate about ensuring the safety and wellbeing of all our students, and creating a level playing field for minority and marginalised students, so every student has the best possible environment for learning and success in their studies. Being a student myself I am quite empathetic about the expectations out of a university, I believe in collaboration and togetherness. And to achieve anything, unity plays an inevitable role. Students are the future catalysts to expedite Australia's betterment in the field of economy and infrastructure.Hence I will work to my utmost to know these budding students' needs and expectations through frequent surveys to reform processes catering to these students' needs. My continuous efforts will underlie a healthy collaborative environment by encouraging students to participate in brainstorming, debates, social and environmental awareness campaigns, entrepreneurship, creative ideas, cultural celebrations, etc. We in a body will motivate each other to the fullest and march towards headway. NUS Delegate Candidate

Abid Billah

Hey everyone, I’m Abid Billah and I want to be your National Union of Students Delegate for 2018. ACTIVATE is a team that’s championing a more inclusive, accessible and thriving university since 2014, bringing you phone charging stations and more food options on campus. We’ve been advocating for safer campuses, a voice in your education, and more.

1) Free, accessible education
2) Autonomous Issues
3) Ending Sexual Violence at Universities
4) Student Welfare
5) Environmentalism

But more than that, I personally want to see international students voices are heard in a national level especially regarding workplace exploitation and discrimination.

As it is well known international students are only allowed to work 40 hours per fortnight, they have to work long hours to meet their living expenses which negatively affect their studies and wellbeing.

As a result this is the key issue I will focus on and make sure we closely work with NUS to take steps to highlight and rectify this issue.

So on the 23rd – 27th of October, make sure you vote for a passionate team with proven results and activate your university.

NUS Delegate Candidate

Tom Gilchrist

My name is Tom Gilchrist, I’m an arts student and a socialist activist, and I’m running with Left Action.
The National Union of Students has been instrumental in pushing forward the Yes to Marriage Equality campaign and left-wing activists within the national union has been crucial to this campaign. I will support left-wing activists for positions in the national union.
I’ll support student activists who will mobilise students to rally against the Australian state’s racism, supporting refugees and opposing Islamophobia.
We need a national union that isn’t just prepared to fight against attacks on students – funding cuts to universities, increased fees and cuts to penalty rates- but is prepared to mobilise students to campaign to make education free again.
With Donald Trump threatening nuclear war the national union urgently need to take a firm position against cooperation with Australian and US defence companies. Scientific research should be directed towards the interest of the people and planet, not the military and mining companies.
A union that fights for students’ rights and stands on the side of the oppressed will only be possible if socialist activists, like myself, make up a large and vocal proportion of delegates.

I will promote unity at UniSA by providing students better events and activities that will engage them to connect with other students and make strong connections throughout the university. I propose to improve UniSA’s academic and sports clubs by granting additional funds to offer students better opportunities to participate in social activities and events. I propose to improve the students’ university life by making the campus safe, and restricting specific areas where students can smoke, promoting UniSA as a smoke-free campus for all. Overall, I want to improve the campus life and culture by creating UNITY and EQUALITY, and promoting GOOD FOOD, GOOD GRADES, and GOOD TIMES for the overall success and happiness of all the students of UniSA.
