President Candidates

President Candidate

Maddy Edhouse

My name is Maddy Edhouse, I’m an arts student and a socialist activist, and I’m running with Left Action.

I’ll advocate for USASA to oppose all attacks on the young – funding cuts to universities, increased fees and cuts to penalty rates – as well as supporting the campaign to make education free again. I support stronger involvement with National Union of Students’ campaigns to achieve these goals.

With Donald Trump threatening nuclear war, I think USASA urgently needs to take a firm position against cooperation with Australian and US defence companies. I will campaign for scientific research at Uni SA to be in the interest of the people and environment, not the military and mining companies.

It has been great to see the massive student involvement in the campaign this year for Marriage Equality. I’d like to get the university to fly the rainbow flag prominently on campus as a sign of support for LGBTI students.

When students and academics are threatened with deportation USASA should be prepared to organise and push forward campaigns against the Australian state’s racism. I will advocate for the university to be a safe haven for refugees, providing them with free and permanent accommodation.

President Candidate

Lam Vu Hoang

I understand the importance of building a safe and respectable university community.

My aim is to deliver strategies to prevent sexual violence on campus. If elected, I will attempt, to the best of my abilities, to help you to feel at ease, whilst you tackle through your studies. How will I do this? I will act as an intermediary to help facilitate communication between students and faculty staff. In other words, any student who voice their concerns about the university community will ensure that their expression will be dealt with accordingly, if students let me know. As of currently, I am studying Law, and with the knowledge gained through this qualification, I am well-suited to understand the policies and procedures that govern student academic misconduct and appeals. Thus, if you happen to face the academic committee, I may be able to sit and observe to ensure an ‘even playing field’. If elected, I aim to do the following:

• Be approachable and promote the interest of students;
• Act as intermediary between students and faculty staff;
• Provide a safe university campus; and
• Participate in the appeals committee.

Remember to vote [1] for Lam.

President Candidate

Natrydd Sigurthur

Hi everyone, I’m Natrydd Sigurthur and I want to be your 2018 President. ACTIVATE is a team that’s championing a more inclusive, accessible and thriving university since 2014, bringing you phone charging stations and more food options on campus. We’ve been advocating for safer campuses, a voice in your education, and more.

If elected as your President, I want to work towards:
1) Your Student Association being fully governed by students for students
2) Better supporting clubs by increasing funding, and creating club spaces on-campus
3) Having meaningful student-led partnerships and academic advocacy, so student’s voices are heard in their education
4) Making sure students are treated to a fair and accessible academic review and formal inquiry process
5) Continuing to hold university management accountable for their policies and procedures about sexual assault and harassment

But more than that, I want UniSA students to feel supported in their studies. No one should be prevented from studying due to a lack of support and appropriate services.

International Student Rep Candidate

Saikiran Ramini

I am Saikiran Ramini, studying masters in professional accounting here in UniSA from India. As an international student I know how difficult it is sometimes where everything is new and if you are alone. My first policy is about safety of my international friends on campus, especially for women. And my other policy is to provide language assistance. It can be really difficult for a national whose first language is not English. As an International student representative I will ask for language assistance to all of my fellow student friends. Another policy is about scholarships. International students are paying more fees compared to domestic students and they also receive various funds and grants which are not available for an international student. And also regarding job offers after graduation there are really less opportunities for an international student. I will try my best to ensure that scholarships and job offers are available to international students. And lastly knowing about different cultures from different places of world. Asking for more cultural events including more free food. If I win, I will try make the journey of an international student here in UniSA goes very smoothly and have a wonderful experience

City West Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidates

City West Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidate

James Avellanoza

Hi! My name is James and I am running to become the undergraduate student representative for City West. GOOD FOOD, GOOD GRADES, GOOD TIMES, three good things that the students need to know and feel on campus! Firstly, I believe that eating and having a balance diet could boost a student’s energy to study, and that is why I want to improve our university’s food offerings by suggesting more food options at an affordable price which will be good for everyone! Secondly, I don’t like to see that some of our students are struggling with studies and having difficult times in university. I will endeavour to provide additional digital access to computers and resources on our campus. I propose to improve student-help access by creating more support sessions that will help students tackle their assessments confidently. Lastly, what is university life if we don’t have good times. I will raise our campus culture by creating bigger and efficient events on campus that each and everyone of us can enjoy and remember! Above all, I will always be here to know what the students REALLY WANT and how all of us can MAKE IT HAPPEN!

City West Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidate

Bridget Barletta

Hi, my name is Bridget Barletta and I’m a second year Law + Business Management student running to be your City West representative. I want to help reinvigorate campus life by working to increase funding to clubs meaning a more dynamic campus, with more frequent events! I also understand the cost burden of parking to City West students and as your board rep I will investigate ways to improve parking options for students on our campus.

I will contribute to USASA's input on the issue of sexual assault and will work with the university to ensure that the reports recommendations are implemented. I also want to work with the rest of the USASA board to expand the free Brekky Bar program and bring back the Exam Rescue Station to help you during exam times. I will work with the university to expand academic support programs such as PASS to help support you with your study.

If any of these things matter to you, please vote for me and the rest of the UNITE team from October 23-27.

City West Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidate

Benjamin Altieri

My name is Benjamin Altieri and I am running for the position of City West campus undergraduate representative on the 2018 USASA Board. I am currently studying a Bachelor of Design and have carried a strong passion for student involvement since Highschool, where I previously held student office as Vice-President. I believe that your voice is essential to ensuring that your experience, and that of future students, is not only positive, but also fun and engaging.

I am a organised and efficient person who is dedicated to understanding the issues that are important to you, and develop creative solutions that will benefit everyone. There is always room for improvement and with your involvement, we can work together to make real, lasting change.

As your representative, I will always be accessible to hear your ideas and be your genuine voice to the University; putting the needs of students and USASA first, and keeping the community updated and informed always.

I believe that I can successfully represent the student community at City West with honesty and integrity, and continue to improve the relationship between students and the University. I want to make a difference and I need your vote to achieve this.

City West Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidate

Sage Jupe

My name is Sage Jupe, I’m a design student and a socialist activist, and I’m running with Left Action.

City West Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidate

Alana Lizoguboff

My name is Alana and I would be honoured to be elected to be your USASA student representative.
I will try to the best of my ability to effectively use my organisation, initiative and understanding for others to help be the voice of the students. I want to be able to play an active role in the ongoing improvement of our university. I want to aim to help arrange fun exciting events as they are great ways for us to get involved, have fun (and to get free food). I understand that not every student has an interest in these activities/social events but I will try my very best to encourage, promote and ensure that all students have a memorable university experience.

Mawson Lakes Undergraduate Campus Rep Candidate

Jiani Fan

I just recently completed my first semester of Bachelor of IT (Software Development) with high GPA 7 and I am also the International Merit Scholarship winner. My course was focused on information technology as well as programming and I have been able to enhance my learning by undertaking internships at Montgomery International Consultants in Adelaide. I have also joined in our school leadership program which provides an insight into different styles of leadership, builds our self-awareness and assists us to develop skills needed to work effectively in leadership teams.
Although I have only lived in Adelaide for 7 months, I already am familiar with this place and have embraced this as my new home. I got an internship related to my study as a programmer. and did volunteering in events such as Govhack and Open Days at UniSA. Also, I am now a first aider volunteer at St John Ambulance Australia SA Inc. I'm especially interested in giving back to the community and helping others.
I would like to apply for the Student Representative and bring my full commitment in all my endeavours.

I believe that I possess this trait. I am a person who listens before she leads and I can be counted on to represent your voice. I can assure you that I will perform all my duties, serving as your representative in good stead and works towards building a very fresh and engaging student representation. It would also be in my best interest to encourage and galvanize more participation in university events like the Open Day, UniTopia and other club activities. Mawson Lakes Campus Rep Candidates

Mawson Lakes Campus Rep Candidate

Vladislav Zhelezarov

Vlad Zhelezarov
Mawson Lakes Representative

My ultimate goal with USASA is to engage with student community on a one to one basis, which will allow for me to understand student needs. In addition, I would like to engage with the international student community on the Mawson Lakes Campus and provide more opportunities to experience the Australian culture. Another goal of mine is to encourage students to try new things and join clubs that they express interest in. Also, I plan to be an advocate for more activities and engagement on campus, such as; free brekky bar, quiz nights, sports, and various other events. I consider myself to be a strong communicator, highly organised, deliver quality outcomes and have the ability to “think outside the box”.

Tom Gilchrist

My name is Tom Gilchrist, I’m an arts student and a socialist activist, and I’m running with Left Action.
